1862. In un villaggio del Nuovo Messico[2], il bandito Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan María Ramírez (il Brutto) esce vittorioso da uno scontro con tre uomini; li ha uccisi tutti meno uno, il quale rimane gravemente ferito alla spalla destra, prossima all'amputazione con tutto il braccio. Ora la taglia su di lui vale ben 2.000 dollari.
L'Avana (Cuba). I due amici Juan e Lazaro mentre sono intenti a pescare abbattono quasi per caso un morto vivente emerso dalle acque. I due non si scompongono più di tanto, nemmeno quando tornati nel loro quartiere scoprono nuovi casi di gente trasformata in zombi sanguinanti. Con l'aiuto di altri conoscenti Juan e Lazaro formano una squadra di disinfestatori di zombi a domicilio, la situazione però diventa sempre più grave e ingestibile.......
Juan is a slacker trying to reconnect with his daughter, who plans to rejoin her mother in Miami. Lazaro, Juan's friend, is trying to connect with his own son, a persistent womanizer. They begin to notice that locals are "going crazy", killing people and eating their flesh, and the recently deceased are returning to life....
