Adam Sandler nei panni di Skeeter Bronson è un tuttofare in un albergo, la cui vita cambia per sempre quando le fiabe della buonanotte che racconta ai suoi nipoti iniziano misteriosamente ad avverarsi. Quando lui cerca di aiutare la sua famiglia con un racconto eccessivo dietro l’altro, sono i contributi inaspettati dei bambini che stravolgono tutte le loro vite. Le folli avventure non sono altro che le fiabe della buonanotte che Skeeter racconta per intrattenere i ragazzi di notte. Poco soddisfatto dai loro libri, decide di inventarsi delle storie, permettendo ai bambini di entrare nel gioco e contribuire a questi racconti folli. Le storie, con degli ambienti che spaziano dal Vecchio West allo Spazio profondo, dall’Epoca medievale alla Grecia antica, prendono vita nel corso del film…
