Finalmente una compilation che sembra apparentemente fare parte della cosiddetta onda lounge, dove con questo nome si intende un ampio raggio di musiche che lascia sempre più Piero Umiliani e le colonne sonore degli anni sessanta per avvicinarsi addirittura alla house meno originale... Forse è perché questo disco spinge più il pedale sul lato etnico - ambientale, non cadendo nel pericolo del baratro new age: il layout pacchiano ma accattivante del doppio CD è accompagnato da una buona dose di musica coi fiocchi. Nomi molto interessanti a comporre due dischi a tema, joy e tranquillity, che riescono ad aiutarci a provare queste sensazioni, usufruendo di nomi come Craig Armstrong, Brian Eno, Nitin Singh, Gotan Project (un disco loro intero è una tortura, una canzone sola si lascia ascoltare), Richard Dorfmeister, Filla Brazilla, Dj Food, Air, FunDaMental, Thievery Corporation. Un numero niente male di stelline della musica elettonica, che rendono molto piacevole l\'ascolto di queste due ore abbondanti di musica.
James Sidlo, chitarrista, suona in due band, con progetti differenti. La prima, Dreamland, si muove nei territori dell\'ambient e dello space rock, purtroppo ha suoni a volte vicini al midi, tappeti di tastiere anni ottanta ed effetti fuori tempo massimo: l\'atmosfera sembra quella di un film di fantascenza di quegli anni, ma se avete il pallino per certo Vangelis potrebbe piacervi, buon tappeto sonoro lo è di certo, nulla più. La seconda band, Honey Barbara, suona un certo rock in fluenzato dal progressive, lambendo a volte atmosfere simili agli ultimi Mercury Rev, anche per la voce (che già negli ultimi, deprecabili, Rev non è un granché... Ridateci Yerself Is Steam!); a volte un goccino di Velvet Underground, ma alla fine il disco, forse pure per i suoi settanta minuti e rotti, non riesce a decollare. Raggiunge le due stellette perché è accompagnato ad una splendida rivista di grafica, la stessa Emigre (www.emigre.com) che è anche etichetta: meraviglia, con tutte le prove dei font e molte sciccherie, meglio il layout che la musica, in questo caso!
