Ambientata a Londra, “Slow Horses” si sviluppa tra le fila del “dipartimento discarica” dell’MI5, intelligence britannica, capeggiato da Jackson Lamb (Oldman), un uomo dal passato indefinibile, brillante ma imprevedibile, che sopravvive al suo polveroso e trascurato presente tra sigarette e whisky.
Atmosfere piovose e grigie, uffici impolverati e disordinati, la periferia di Londra, i suoi uffici e i suoi bar, fanno da cornice a questa spy-story in puro stile britannico, una storia di spionaggio, nel senso più classico del termine: con più pedinamenti che tecnologia, più intrigo politico che spettacolarizzazione.
Come sempre i membri della Slough House finiscono trascinati un po’ per caso all’interno di uno scenario decisamente fuori dalla loro portata, riuscendo però sempre a risolvere la situazione.
Nella terza stagione, una relazione romantica a Istanbul minaccia di svelare un segreto sepolto dell'MI5 a Londra. Quando Jackson Lamb e la sua squadra vengono trascinati nella lotta, si ritrovano coinvolti in una cospirazione che minaccia il futuro non solo di Slough House, ma dello stesso MI5.
