La notte del 9 aprile 1940 una flotta di navi naziste attracca a Oslo. La più grande di esse, la Blücher, orgoglio di Hitler, è affondata. Quando la Germania manda un ultimatum per la resa, il primo ministro norvegese appare rassegnato. Il Paese sta cadendo a pezzi ma due uomini decidono di impegnarsi per ciò in cui credono: re Haakon di Norvegia e il diplomatico tedesco Curt Bräuer. Ha inizio così una corsa contro il tempo per evitare la guerra, anche se i soldati tedeschi hanno il compito di dare la caccia al re e alla sua famiglia. Ignaro di avere il sostegno di suo figlio e del parlamento democraticamente eletto, Haakon è chiamato a una scelta che cambierà per sempre la sua nazione.
On the night of April 9, 1940, a fleet of Nazi ships drifts to Oslo. The biggest of them, Blücher, Hitler's pride, is sunk. When Germany sends an ultimatum for the release, the Norwegian Prime Minister appears resigned. The country is falling apart but two men decide to commit themselves to what they believe: King Haakon of Norway and German diplomat Curt Bräuer. Thus, a race against time is beginning to avoid war, even though German soldiers have the task of hunting the king and his family. I'm ignorant of having the support of her son and of the democratically elected parliament, Haakon is called to a choice that will change forever his nation.
