Per il suo compleanno, Paperino riceve dagli amici dell'America del Sud uno scatolone contenente alcuni preziosi regali. Il primo è un film, con tante cose interessanti della America meridionale: i rari uccelli dal piumaggio multicolore; l'asino alato che sorvola quelle lontane regioni; un pinguino, freddoloso abitatore del Polo Sud, che affronta un viaggio avventuroso in cerca di un clima piu' tiepido e costeggiando il Cile e il Peru', giunge al Paraguay. Il secondo dono è un libro sul Brasile, e qui entra in scena Josè Carioca, un simpatico pappagallo, che accompagna Paperino in giro per il paese. Il libro illustra particolarmente Bahia e le sue belle ragazze, con le quali Paperino tenta qualche avventura. Il terzo dono è un libro sul Messico. Pancito, un ardente e dinamico gallo, fa da guida ai due amici, che imparano a conoscere i luoghi piu' caratteristici, i costumi popolari, le usanze, per esempio le tradizioni natalizie. Giungono poi ad una località balneare e scherzano con le bagnanti. Tutto questo è pero' solo un sogno: restano la pellicola e i due volumi illustrati.
