Jacqueline Kennedy aveva solo 34 anni quando suo marito venne eletto Presidente degli Stati Uniti. Poi, il 22 Novembre 1963, durante un viaggio a Dallas per la sua campagna elettorale, John F. Kennedy venne assassinato e l'abito rosa di Jackie si macchiò di sangue. Quando Jackie salì sull'Air Force One per tornare a Washington, il suo mondo - così come la sua fede - erano andati in pezzi. Sotto choc e sconvolta dal dolore, nel corso della settimana successiva fu costretta ad affrontare momenti che non avrebbe mai immaginato di dover vivere: consolare i suoi due bambini, lasciare la casa che aveva restaurato con grande fatica e pianificare le esequie di suo marito. Jackie capì subito però che quei sette giorni sarebbero stati decisivi nel definire non solo l'immagine e l'eredità storica di John F. Kennedy, ma anche come lei stessa sarebbe stata ricordata.

Elegant, full of style and inscrutable, immediately became an icon around the world, one of the most famous women of all time, Her taste in fashion, furnishings and art became for many a model to imitate. Then, November 22, 1963, during a trip to Dallas for his campaign, John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Jackie pink dress was stained with blood. When Jackie came up on Air Force One to return to Washington, his world - as well as his faith - they had gone to pieces. Shocked and overcome with grief, in the week after she was forced to face times that he never imagined having to live: console his two children, to leave the house he had restored with great effort and plan the funeral of her husband. Jackie immediately understood, however, that those seven days would be decisive in determining not only the image and the historical legacy of John F. Kennedy, as well as she would be remembered.
