Trama
Jimmy Rabbitte, che vive in un quartiere popolare di Dublino, si è messo in testa di organizzare una piccola band. A suo parere, la gente povera e senza lavoro della città ha bisogno di soul. Grazie ad un annuncio sul giornale, Rabbitte comincia a selezionare disoccupati, più o meno talentosi: Dean, Fay, Outspan, l'occhialuto Steven Clifford, Deco il ciccione, Bllly il batterista e Joey "The lips", un bizzarro e anziano suonatore di tromba. In più, Natalie, Imelda e Bernie, tre vistose e grintose ragazze come trio vocale. Procuratasi l'attrezzatura necessaria, impegnando tutti nelle prove e cominciando a prodursi in pubblico in capannoni e locali popolarissimi, l'entusiasta manager riesce a trasmettere al gruppetto fuoco ed ambizioni. Questa band dilettantesca e provinciale, che sembra lanciata verso il vertice, finisce invece nel fallimento: dissapori, inconcludenza, piccole gelosie e rivalità minano il complesso.
