Joe Buck, un giovane texano, giunge a New York ingenuamente convinto di fare fortuna con le danarose signore di Park Avenue, grazie alle proprie doti fisiche. Dopo alcuni squallidi incontri sentimentali, il giovane si imbatte in Rizzo, un povero storpio ridotto a vivere di espedienti. Sentendo Joe vantarsi spavaldamente della propria virilità, Rizzo coglie l'occasione per truffarlo, chiedendogli venti dollari per fargli da "manager". Ridotto senza soldi Joe vaga per la città, assoggettandosi per pochi dollari a umilianti esperienze, finché per caso non ritrova Rizzo. La tentazione di picchiare l'imbroglione è forte, ma maggiore è la necessità di trovare un tetto e qualcosa da mangiare. Joe finisce così con l'accettare l'ospitalità che Rizzo gli offre e va a vivere con lui. Sempre con l'idea di poter riprendere proficuamente il "mestiere" che lo aveva indotto a partire, il giovane texano si adatta a poco a poco alle regole per sopravvivere che l'infermità e la sfortuna hanno insegnato a Rizzo. Col passare del tempo tra i due nasce una sincera amicizia.
Joe Buck, a young Texan, arrives in New York naively convinced to make a fortune with the moneyed ladies of Park Avenue, thanks to their physical attributes. After a few squalid sentimental encounters, the young man comes across Rizzo, a poor cripple reduced to living by their wits. Feeling Joe boldly brag of his virility, Rizzo takes this opportunity to con him, asking him twenty dollars to act as his "manager". Reduced without money Joe roams the city, subjecting themselves to a few dollars to humiliating experiences, until by chance discovers not Rizzo. The temptation to beat the cheater is strong, but the greater the need to find a roof and something to eat. Joe thus ends up accepting the hospitality that Rizzo offers him and went to live with him. Always with the idea of ??being able to shoot proficiently the "job" that had caused him to leave, the young Texan adapts gradually to the rules to survive the illness and misfortune have taught Rizzo. As time passed between the two is born a sincere friendship.
