Nel piccolo e pacifico villaggio Thailandese di Nong Pradu, un gruppo di criminali provenienti dalla citt? di Bangkok e guidati da un certo Peng, rubano Ong-Bak (che in Thai significa "testa tagliata" , ossia la testa della statua sacra del Buddha. Gli abitanti cadono nella disperazione per il sacrilego oltraggio sub?to. Ting, un giovane del piccolo paese, conoscitore grazie al Monaco Pra Kru dell'arte del Muay Thai (o meglio Muay Boran, una versione pi? antica), si offre volontario per recuperarla.
Arrivato in citt?, rintraccia il figlio del suo capovillaggio, George (che al paese d'origine si chiamava "Humlae" chiedendogli aiuto, ma questi inizialmente rifiuta e lo deruba, perdendo poi i suoi soldi in una scommessa. ? indebitato con il capo di una banda di malviventi e vive di espedienti, mettendo a segno qualche truffa qua e l?. Ting dimostra di essere un eccellente guerriero e George tenta di convincerlo a combattere per denaro, ma lui ? concentrato nella sua missione.
[spoiler=!ATTENZIONE!?QUI?IL?FINALE]Dopo decine di combattimenti, molti dei quali mortali, Ting riesce a sconfiggere Peng e riporta Ong-bak al suo villaggio, sconfiggendo i malavitosi e mandando in fumo il loro racket di contrabbando di opere d'arte.[/spoiler]
