Sì perché Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) è l’uno e l’altro: di giorno è un serafico psicologo dei servizi sociali e padre amorevole di due deliziosi e biondissimi bambini, mentre di notte si diverte ad uccidere per soffocamento giovani donne in carriera. Un mostro dalla faccia assicurante e gentile, che in realtà porta dentro di sé una dose massiccia di oscurità.
A dargli la caccia è chiamata Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson), detective della Metropolitan Police Service di Londra, che si trasferisce a Belfast per seguire le indagini: nella piccola città irlandese non sono infatti preparati a fronteggiare un caso simile. Quando l’algida ed elegante Stella arriva a Belfast, tutti sono scombussolati e attratti dalla sua personalità, persino Spector: inizia così una caccia pericolosa in cui inseguitore e inseguito si scambiano più volte di ruolo.
