Ziegfeld Follies è un tipico musical MGM, cioè un riuscito insieme di divertimento, scenografie e star. L'esile trama, basata sull'impresario che continua ad allestire grandiose riviste anche dopo la sua dipartita, serve unicamente a costruire il palcoscenico sul quale far esibire le star del film: Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Esther Williams, Lucille Ball, Gene Kelly e Red Skelton. Si tratta forse del più assortito e prestigioso cast mai utilizzato per un musical: c'erano veramente tutti. Memorabili anche i duetti e le canzoni tra le quali: This Heart Of Mine con Fred Astaire e Lucille Bremer, A Lady Has An Interview con Judy Garland, Guzzler's Gin con Red Skelton e The Babbit and The Bromide con Gene Kelly e Fred Astaire.
Il film, come molti musical dell'epoca, ha un "Ouverture" musicale della durata di alcuni minuti, così come ha un brano di "uscita"
